The Emperor Defeated! Lately, Roman Reigns has fought tooth and nail to defend his Intercontinental Championship. Title defense after title defense, Reigns proved to be stronger than ever. There was one problem. The Miz returned. The Miz has been sending out messages that soon he’ll have his Intercontinental Championship back. He wanted his rematch. Reigns gave him his rematch. Can Roman continue to defend the title successfully?

From the beginning of the match to the end, Roman had to deal with the Miztourage. They would make Roman work three times as hard to keep the offense going. A Superman Punch did not prevent a Reigns from losing the title. It took a little cheating to do it. This is not the end for Roman. He can look forward to regaining the top title.

WWE.com has more on this historic night and Roman’s valiant effort below.

For a long time now, The Miz has delivered on his promises where the Intercontinental Championship is concerned. Raw 25 proved to be no different, as The A-Lister defeated Roman Reigns to begin an eighth reign with what is fast becoming his signature championship just hours after declaring for the Men’s Royal Rumble Match.

At first, however, it was all Reigns, who bounced Miz around the ring with impunity in a match he was dedicating to his cousin, Yokozuna. The Miztourage once again paid dividends for The Miz, giving The Awesome One the opening to turn the tide by throwing Reigns into the steel steps, aggravating The Big Dog’s shoulder in the process.

Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel proved persistent enough in their interference to get themselves thrown out by the referee, though not before they clambered onto the apron one last time, opening the door for Miz to hit a distracted Reigns with a Skull-Crushing Finale. Reigns kicked out, but when he whiffed on a Spear and went face-first into a turnbuckle that Miz had discreetly unbuckled earlier in the match, a second Skull-Crushing Finale was enough to put him down for the 1-2-3.

So Miz is champion again, and that several former Raw General Managers — John Laurinaitis, Eric Bischoff and William Regal — were in the building to witness Miz’s triumph was a treat. That Miz’s nemesis, current SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan, was among them, was the cherry on top.

A War Of Reprecussions! Last week Roman Reigns got disqualified for pushing a referee, he is set on a war path. But before his match, he has a few words with Renée Young. Reigns says that Samoa Joe got what he deserved last week. After hurting he and Dean Ambrose, Reigns said Joe didn’t deserve a title shot.

Before Roman goes one on one with Samoa Joe, Seth Rollins tells Roman that as much as he understands why he’s so fired up, he should take it easy to prevent a disqualification. Seth says he likes the fact that both of them are champions and he’d like to keep it that way.

Match: Roman makes his way to the the ring. Samoa Joe is fast to take the lead in the match. Roman Soon has had enough as he sets after Samoa Joe with Samoan Drops and Superman Punches. Samoa Joe still has fight in him as Roman slides out of the ring, and drops a Drive By on Joe. This gets Joe off balance for a bit. Roman then goes for the steel steps. The referee stops him and reminds him of the disqualification rule. Reigns backs off. In the ring, Roman sets up for a Superman Punch. Joe pushes Roman into the referee to try to gain the title off of the disqualification. Roman pleads with the referee that he was pushed. The match continues. Joe eats two Superman Punches and a Spear.

Roman Reigns begins 2018 by successfully defending his Intercontinental Championship.

This match had a lot of highlights. To find out more about this war of epic proportions, here is what WWE.com had to say.

Consider the curse broken. Roman Reigns didn’t just score his first-ever singles win over Samoa Joe in their Intercontinental Title rematch, he got retribution for Dean Ambrose, defended the honor of The Shield and managed to navigate a stipulation that would have cost The Big Dog his title if he got himself disqualified.

That caveat was a result of the excessive aggression that both got Roman disqualified last week and earned him a $5,000 fine for shoving referee John Cone. This time around, The Big Dog had to toe a fine line when it came to carrying the flag for the injured Ambrose while also keeping his anger in check to retain his title (especially with Cone donning the stripes again), and Joe took advantage of Reigns’ hesitance early in the match. Even by his standards, The Samoan Submission Machine was in rare form, blistering Reigns with offense that left the champion out on his feet and searching wildly for an answer.

Even when Roman got himself back into the match, he flirted close enough with a disqualification on several occasions that the ref pulled him off and stopped his momentum cold, allowing Joe to reassert himself. And Joe seemed to successfully exploit the loophole when he shoved Reigns into Cone, setting off a confrontation that may have led to a disqualification if Joe hadn’t pressed his attack, landing a Uranage that continued the match. An irate Joe locked in the Coquina Clutch moments later, but Reigns had one move left in the tank, throwing Joe over his shoulder and pouncing with a sternum-shattering Spear to put the instant classic to a close.

The Emperor’s Open Challenge! Roman is out first tonight. It’s no surprise last week was a big week. Shield reunited, they beat New Day at Survivor Series and Roman won the Intercontinental title. The crowd chants you deserve it and he said it’s been a long time and thank you. Roman then goes to what happened to Miz after Raw went off air. He says Miz is gone for awhile and as long as he has the title, he will be a fighting champion. He says if you want it, step up and take it. Miztourage comes out complaining about Roman disrespecting Miz. They say they can’t avenge Miz’s loss but someone else can. Elias. Elias comes out and says tonight he will take the IC championship. Roman says Elias wants to walk with the big dog. But he should look at Axel. He will have a neck brace tonight.

Roman got a huge pop before he came out for the title match. The crowd chanted “We want Roman”. At match start, the crowd is split in cheers and boos for Roman, but you can tell who the crowd is for. A lockup starts the match. Elias with knees to the stomach. He pins Roman twice. Roman kicks out both times. Reigns is down, hopefully he can get back in the match. Elias clotheslines Roman and pins him. Roman kicks out at two. Roman comes back with sheer power as he clotheslines Elias in the corner. Bo Dallas tries to interfere, but Roman throws him off the outside of the ring. Curtis Axel tries to distract Roman and Roman swings and misses as Axel jumps down. Elias gains off of the distraction and rolls Roman up. Kick out.

Back from commercial, Reigns is in a bad way. Soon he gains momentum and drive by’s on Elias. He superman Punches Bo Dallas and Spear’s Curtis Axel. Elias gains momentum again as he goes high flying with an elbow to the champion. Roman kicks out and Elias powerbomb’s Reigns. Reigns barely kicks out at two. Roman superman punches Elias and Elias kicks out. Elias tries a running knee, but Roman blocks it and sets up for a SPEAR TO ELIAS!

Your winner and STILL Intercontinental Champion Roman Reigns!

After the match: Roman walks up the ramp celebrating his victory, when Samoa Joe ensues a vicious attack on Roman Reigns with the Cocina Clutch. It takes several referees and WWE personnel to get Joe off of Roman. Samoa Joe says that he is coming for the title. Here is what WWE.com had to say:

The Intercontinental Championship may have gone from The A-List to The Yard, but Roman Reigns isn’t about to let it sit idly in his trophy case. Agreeing with The Miz’s assertion that the Intercontinental Title was worthy of the biggest possible spotlight, The Big Dog kicked off his first Raw as champion with something of an open challenge, only to be confronted by The Miztourage. Left adrift after their leader was defrocked and sent to the shelf by a Shield Triple Powerbomb after Raw went off the air last week, Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel introduced a Superstar who was more than willing to answer The Big Dog’s call: Elias.

Consider Roman Reigns’ first week as Intercontinental Champion a success — with one big asterisk.

The win came in The Big Dog’s title defense against Elias, who put up a formidable fight in the biggest opportunity of the young Superstar’s career. Competing for his first title, Elias stuck to the ground-and-pound strategy that had brought him to the dance, and The Miztourage did their part at ringside, distracting Reigns as he pulled ahead and allowing his challenger to get back in the thick of things with a picturesque elbow drop.

Reigns tilted the contest back his way by reversing Drift Away into a roll-up attempt, and despite Elias countering one Spear with a knee to the face, The Big Dog’s second attempt at the move seconds later hit its mark and sent the champ home victorious.

As for the asterisk? Right as Reigns was making his exit, he turned to thank the WWE Universe once more and was bulldozed from behind by Samoa Joe, who trapped The Big Dog in the Coquina Clutch, delivering a stark reminder that the life of a fighting champion is a long, hard one with no end in sight.

Hounds vs The Unicorns! The Shield has made their return in their first pay per view in a very long time. The Shield debuted at Survivor Series five years ago. This match is a dream match of sorts and puts Raw against SmackDown. The Hounds dominated in 2012 – 2013 and since then have held award winning careers as solo competitors. Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins have nothing to prove as a team. What they want is to make sure The New Day knows that there is one team that is more dominant and stands tall above the rest… The Shield.

This match showed a lot of strength. Big E knocked Roman down, Roman got back up. Vise versa. The Shield has their work cut out for them. Roman Reigns serves up the legendary Samoan Drop. There is a lot of trash talking between the two teams. New Day takes over, Roman and Seth try to rally Ambrose. Ambrose hits a Missile Drop. Ambrose tags in Rollins. This match will set the tone for the entire show. Reigns tags in, hits Woods with a lariate. Woods kicks out. Roman sets up for a Superman Punch, but Xavier blocks it. Woods gets distracted and Roman hits the Superman Punch. All competitors are in the ring. Rollins and Woods are legal. Ambrose dirty deeds Woods for a two count. The match heads outside. New Day singles Reigns on the outside and takes him out of the match. Roman senses his brothers are in trouble and hits Big E with a SPEAR! Reigns tags in. ALL COMPETITORS ARE IN THE RING AND ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE!! Kofi and Reigns are legal. Reigns hits a distracted Kingston with a SPEAR! Roman tags in Rollins and Rollins tags in Ambrose. Reigns climbs to the top rope. WHAT!? TRIPLE POWERBOMB!!! Rollins covers Kingston for the win. Here is more from this world wind of a match, check out WWE.com’s review of this epic match.

Five years after The Shield’s debut, Raw Superstars Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose proved that they’re still the most dominant trio in WWE, defeating SmackDown LIVE’s The New Day in the opening match of Survivor Series 2017.

A sold-out crowd packed inside Houston’s Toyota Center witnessed a dream match that set the visceral tone for the rest of the night’s head-to-head battles for brand supremacy. In the early goings, it was Ambrose — a Superstar more than accustomed to absorbing massive amounts of bodily harm — who sustained the most damage as Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston & Big E isolated The Lunatic Fringe and hit him with two successive Unicorn Stampedes and a massive Big E spear through the ropes and to the floor. However, neither Ambrose nor his Shield brothers would stand down in defense of the red brand.

Faced with an unrelenting trio of foes, The New Day was forced to get even more creative than usual. As Ambrose lay supine on the canvas — once again separated from his then-incapacitated Shield brothers — Kingston climbed to the top rope, Woods hoisted E onto his shoulders, helping The Dreadlocked Dynamo leapfrog over his New Day allies for a punishing splash onto Ambrose. For good measure, Big E leapt onto The Lunatic Fringe himself, crushing Ambrose’s ribs with his 285-pound frame.

When an exhausted Rollins attempted to intervene, E scooped up Rollins and Ambrose, hitting the former Raw Tag Team Champions with a double Midnight Hour that seemed to seal the victory for The New Day and SmackDown LIVE. Enter: The Big Dog.

Returning to the fray after being laid out at ringside, Reigns hit Big E with a thunderous Spear that made landfall on top of the pin attempt, breaking the count. A brawl between both frustrated factions ensued, and a Spear to Kingston led many to believe that The Shield’s signature Triple Powerbomb was on the horizon. Reigns, however, had other ideas, going up to the middle rope instead of getting into his usual position for the move. Ambrose and Rollins got the message, and the reunited Hounds of Justice ended the dream match in nightmarish fashion for Kingston, who suffered an impressive (and impactful) Super Triple Powerbomb. Ambrose scored the pinfall over Kingston, and Raw stood triumphant.

After weeks of sieges and psychological warfare, it was The Shield who scored Raw’s first victory over SmackDown LIVE at Survivor Series. Believe that.
