WWE World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus vs. Roman Reigns in a TLC Match

With a precisely timed cash-in at Survivor Series, Sheamus snared the top prize in WWE and ruined Roman Reigns’ crowning moment in one fell swoop. But on Dec. 13, at WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs, the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion will have to answer to The Big Dog when he defends the title against Reigns in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match.

WWE COO Triple H announced the rematch on the Nov. 23 edition of Raw, one night after The Celtic Warrior Brogue Kicked his way into the history books. Per match rules, the winner on Dec. 13 will be the first Superstar to climb a ladder and retrieve the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which will hang high above the ring. Tables, ladders and chairs will all be fair game, perfectly legal instruments of destruction to be used by both competitors.

For Reigns, the match represents the latest in a seemingly endless series of obstacles to the WWE World Heavyweight Title. He nearly had the championship won at WrestleMania, only for Seth Rollins to interrupt and cash in his Money in the Bank contract successfully. At Money in the Bank 2015, the all-important contract — the same one ultimately won by Sheamus — seemed within reach, until Bray Wyatt interfered and halted him. Finally, at WWE’s fall classic, the title was his, claimed after Reigns went 4-0 in the championship tournament, only for The Celtic Warrior to emerge and unleash two brutal Brogue Kicks. Will Reigns score payback at WWE TLC?

Sheamus will not let the title go without a fight. The double-tough Irishman, now with the endorsement of The Authority, may be more powerful than ever before. After returning to the WWE mountaintop for the first time in years, The Celtic Warrior will likely go to the extreme to defend his newly won title. Without the element of surprise working in his favor, as it had at Survivor Series, will Sheamus be able to stop The Big Dog?

Perhaps most important of all, which Superstar stands to benefit most from the unique — and ultra-dangerous — Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match stipulation?

Watch the carnage unfold live when WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs takes over the award-winning WWE Network on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 8 ET/5 PT.

Roman Reigns and United States Champion Alberto Del Rio will face off in the semifinal round of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Tournament this Sunday at Survivor Series, with the winner advancing the tournament final — and the opportunity of a lifetime — later that night.

For Reigns, a victory against Del Rio would secure him a WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match for the second time in recent memory. The Big Dog originally earned No. 1 contender status on the Oct. 26 edition of Raw, when he came out on top in a Fatal 4-Way Match. Yet, his title match against champion Seth Rollins was canceled after The Architect suffered a major knee injury and had to forfeit the championship. Reigns was then offered a golden chance to be fast-tracked to the tournament final by WWE COO Triple H, but he refused to “play ball” with The Authority in exchange for the free ride.

In turn, Reigns’ path to the semifinals has been anything but easy. He scraped past The World’s Largest Athlete, Big Show, in round one, and overcame a tough challenge from Cesaro in round two.

Since returning to WWE by surprise at Hell in a Cell, where he reappeared alongside Zeb Colter and ended John Cena’s U.S. Championship reign, Del Rio has appeared virtually unstoppable. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion advanced to the tournament semifinals with wins over Stardust in round one and The Lucha Dragons’ Kalisto in round two.

Which Superstar will have the edge this Sunday in Atlanta at Survivor Series? Will the U.S. Champion’s dangerous strikes and flawless submission game propel him to a WWE World Heavyweight Title Match? Or will Reigns — who came within a hair of winning WWE’s top prize from Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 31 — Superman Punch and Spear his way to the final?

Watch this all-important tournament clash at Survivor Series, airing live this Sunday, only on the award-winning WWE Network.

The Predator is known for hunting other species for sport, so it’s not unimaginable to think the extraterrestrial could seek out a new challenge and target a WWE Superstar such as Roman Reigns. After all, the creature traveled to Los Angeles to hunt down dangerous gangs in “Predator 2,” so why not enter a WWE ring? The vicious hunter battled a couple of WWE Hall of Famers in Jesse Ventura and Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Predator,” so it wouldn’t be a first.

The Predator has the size and strength advantage over Reigns, along with a body resilient to damage, but don’t count out the powerhouse Superstar in this fight. Reigns’ Superman Punch could prove effective in making his opponent’s face even more grotesque. And who knows, maybe Arnold would join the fight to help the former Shield member out.

Brothers will band together against a twisted family at WWE SummerSlam, as Roman Reigns will team with Dean Ambrose to take on the recently reunited Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper.

Since costing Reigns the Money in the Bank Contract Ladder Match in June, The New Face of Fear has targeted Reigns by taunting him with photos of his daughter and repeating the mantra, “Anyone but you.” Wyatt and Reigns squared off at WWE Battleground, and as The Big Dog looked to have his adversary beat, a hooded Harper emerged to aid his former leader.

The next night, Wyatt made it clear that he and Harper were still family, and Reigns seemed to be fighting an uphill battle. That all changed when The Lunatic Fringe emerged to support his friend, resulting in a chaotic brawl following Reigns’ match against Harper. When Wyatt and Harper emerged on the following SmackDown to cost Ambrose his match with Sheamus, it became evident that they had not taken Ambrose’s meddling lightly.

The Eater of Worlds elaborated on his reunion with Harper by recounting how he found his comrade as a “damaged man,” and “fixed him” so he could one day set him free. Harper, in turn, credits Wyatt for saving him from what he perceives to be the world’s cruelty. Wyatt warned Ambrose to stay away from his issue with Reigns, but the former Shield brothers have proven that their bond, too, is unbreakable.

Refusing to back down, Reigns laid down the challenge for a “family war” on the August 6 edition of SmackDown. In doing so, he promised that Wyatt, who accepted the challenge later that night, would be “picking the teeth out of his beard” when The Big Dog and The Lunatic Fringe got done with him and Harper.

Which team will prove to be the stronger surrogate family? Watch WWE SummerSlam, live on Aug. 23 at 7 ET/4 PT on the award-winning WWE Network, to find out.

When Roman Reigns won the 2014 Superstar of the Year Slammy, it seemed the WWE Universe had picked its new icon.

His post-Slammy coronation has yet to come, though. Reigns watched the man who stabbed him in the back, Seth Rollins, stand tall at the end of WrestleMania 31 in what many believed would be Reigns’ moment. His attempt at redemption fell flat at Money in the Bank, thanks to Bray Wyatt.

Reigns has wrestling in his blood, but he’s got a chip on his shoulder now, too. A hungry Superstar fights through the hard times, and even though The Big Dog now sits in a career valley thanks to Rollins and Wyatt, he never lost sight of the mountaintop. — JEFF LABOON

#8  Roman Reigns

Remember that early episode of “Total Divas” where Eva Marie and JoJo had a minor freak-out when they ran into Roman Reigns in the gym? Right then you could’ve tagged the 2015 Royal Rumble Match winner as WWE’s next big thing, because what other guy could intimidate a roomful of dudes while making Maxim models go weak in the knees just by showing up? Reigns is a rare breed, the kind of performer who can have a faceoff with Brock Lesnar or a walk-on as a reality show heartthrob and appear just as convincing in each. Believe that.

If you’re looking for a Superstar to follow in 2015, the line starts behind Roman Reigns.

The WWE Universe can’t take their eyes off him. That became clear when, despite being sidelined for nearly three months due to injury, Reigns was voted as the 2014 Superstar of the Year. The people have spoken; they see his potential to one day become “the man.”

Dissecting the year Reigns had, however, isn’t as important as studying the building blocks of what could be a historic WWE career. From his rapid recovery to his Royal Rumble and Survivor Series records to his dominating efforts against Randy Orton, Seth Rollins and others, the former Shield strongman has proven he can overcome nearly any obstacle.

Can Reigns build upon those past successes to reach the summit? The WWE Universe’s gaze will undoubtedly remain upon him in 2015 until the answer comes into focus. — MATTHEW ARTUS

ALIGNMENT: “I think I’d be both [a hero and a villain] like Wolverine. He’s a hero, but it’s not really by his choosing. He’s still edgy and kind of a loner. So a bit of a lone wolf hero.”

POWERS: Health regeneration; ability to control metal

COSTUME: “I’d probably keep it similar to what I wear now. I like to think I have the coolest gear in all of WWE history and I’m willing to argue that until the day of my death.”

ARCHENEMY: “Captain America. He sucks.”

ALTER EGO: “I don’t think I would hide it. I would just be in Superman mode the whole time. There is no nerd version of my superhero; he’s just a man all the time.”

WEAKNESS: “No weakness. I would never explain my weakness. You can’t do that, it’s ridiculous.”
