Roman Reigns finally toppled Triple H and The Authority at WrestleMania, but come WWE Payback, The Big Dog will find himself defending his newly won WWE World Heavyweight Championship against an entirely different kind of competitor: AJ Styles.

The Phenomenal One earned the title bout on the April 4 edition of Raw, triumphing in a mesmerizing No. 1 Contender’s Fatal 4-Way Match against Kevin Owens, the returning Cesaro and rival Chris Jericho.

For more than a decade Styles traveled the world, capturing almost every heavyweight title worth its salt, with the exception of one — the WWE World Heavyweight Title. Since debuting in the Royal Rumble Match in January, Styles has more than proven he can hang with WWE’s premier Superstars. At WWE Payback, the calf-crushing, forearm-smashing Phenomenal One will finally receive his first crack at the championship that is indisputably recognized as sports-entertainment’s top crown.

Now that Reigns has seemingly put his problems with The Authority behind him and regained the WWE World Heavyweight Title, there is no telling how far The Big Dog will go to protect his championship gold and status as “the guy.”

Can Reigns’ incredible strength and considerable size advantage, not to mention his debilitating Superman Punch/Spear combination, pave the way to victory? Or will Styles’ experience edge and unparalleled creativity inside the ring net WWE’s celebrated newcomer a monumental victory?

Watch the WWE World Heavyweight Championship clash unfold Sunday, May 1, when WWE Payback airs live on the award-winning WWE Network.

Roman Reigns & AJ Styles In-Ring Segment:

At WrestleMania, Roman fought the authority and he won. He took back his WWE World Heavyweight Championship. When you have the world title, everybody wants a crack at it, so it’s one versus all. You can love or hate Roman, it doesn’t matter to him because he’s not a bad or a good guy, he’s the guy. He’s got to do what he has to do. What Roman is going to do is beat AJ Styles. AJ Styles music hits and he interrupts Roman. AJ tells Roman that he had a heck of a WrestleMania. The reason why AJ is here is because he wanted to congratulate Roman on becoming the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

AJ extends his hand out and they shake hands. AJ says that he had a heck of a Monday Night Raw. AJ went through three other superstars to become the number one contender. AJ says that he’s been all around the world, competed against the best and has captured numerous titles. If AJ has to go through the guy to become the WWE Champion, then so be it. Roman tells AJ that he hasn’t been in WWE for that long and to be considered the guy, you have to be the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Roman knows that AJ has competed all around the world and has defeated a lot of guys, but he’s never defeated Roman and he never will. Roman pats AJ in the shoulder and walks away.

We are back and Roman Reigns comes to the ring, and I guess Dallas does not love the new WWE Champion.

Roman tells everyone to come on.  Roman says he is not a bad guy.  He says he is not a good guy.  He is THE guy.  That is why on the biggest Wrestlemania of all time, he beat Triple H’s ass.  He told Shane McMahon if anyone wants this, bring their ass out now.

Chris Jericho makes his way to the ring to respond to Roman’s challenge.

Chris tells everyone they can shut their damn mouths and listen to him.  Chris says that you say are THE guy, you are just a guy from where he is standing.  You are another idiot like everyone in here tonight.  Chris says he has seen them come and he has seen them go during his time in the WWE.  He has proven that he is the best in the world at what he does.  Jericho tells the people to shut up if they are going to try to hijack the show.  Jericho says they are surrounded by idiots.  You cannot compare to him.  The internet favorite AJ Styles cannot compare to him.  He beat AJ Styles last night and he buried him in the ring.

Jericho demands that Roman put him at the head of the line and he wants to know if Roman understands what he is saying.

AJ Styles comes out to the ring.

Before AJ can speak, Kevin Owens makes his way to the ring.

Sami Zayn makes his way to the ring too.

Roman tells Zayn to back off and Zayn comes into the ring and he punches Owens.  Jericho fights with Styles while Zayn sends Owens to the floor.  Zayn looks at Roman and then hits a flip dive.  Styles is sent to the floor by Jericho.  Reigns with a spear to Jericho.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Roman Reigns walks in the back and he stops to talk to Shane McMahon.  Shane says that Roman will be interested in the main event.  It will be a Fatal Four Way Number One Contender Match featuring Chris Jericho, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, and AJ Styles.

Triple H makes his way to the ring with his wife Stephanie McMahon.

Stephanie tells everyone to stand up and show the proper respect for her husband Triple H.  She tells everyone to get on your knees and grovel at his feet.  That is how you show respect to the fourteen time WWE Champion.

Hunter says in six days the world will watch.  In six days the biggest crowd will watch live.  In six days the world will watch the spectacle that is Wrestlemania.  They will watch for the WWE Title Match.  It is the most important thing in this industry.  Not to take away from anything else, it is the dream of everyone who will walk on the stage on Sunday.  It is the dream of everyone at home.  Everyone has had the dream or fantasy to hold the WWE title high above their head at Wrestlemania.

That will never happen for any of you.  You don’t have the ability to make your dreams a reality.  Think of the odds.  Roman Reigns did.  He is one of those one in a million athletes.  He can turn his dreams into reality.  He was so good he was able to become the WWE World Champion.  For all of five minutes and fifteen seconds.  This Sunday, Hunter says he will walk the aisle at Wrestlemania for the twentieth time.  For the ninth time he will compete for the World Title, the most of anyone in history.  Hunter says it is because he is obsessed with it.  He has been obsessed since Day One of being the WWE Champion.  That obsession led him to the World Championship and the greatest WWE Superstar in History.  He has had a stranglehold on this title and business for the last twenty years.

Hunter says he thought it was okay to put on a suit every day.  Then on that announce table four months ago, Roman Reigns power bombed him.  On that table, Roman Reigns lit the fire of his obsession once again.  People may have forgotten who he was.  Maybe it was Roman Reigns putting his hands on him, but that obsession was back and it was bigger and better than ever.  It was not long before he was WWE Champion again.

Roman Reigns, you have already lost this Sunday.  You have already made the fatal mistake on Sunday.  You made that mistake four months ago.  His obsession marks the end of your dream.  That obsession will ensure that no matter what, he will walk out of Wrestlemania the WWE Champion.

Stephanie says this Sunday is not about marching bands or horns or Hell in a Cell.  It is about the WWE Title, it is about her husband, it is about the Cerebral Assassin.

Roman Reigns’ music plays and he makes his way to the ring.

Hunter kicks Reigns as he crawls under the ropes.  Reigns with a punch to Hunter but Hunter sends Roman into the corner.  Reigns wtih a punch and Hunter leaves the ring.

Stephanie is in the ring alone with Reigns and she gets out of the ring before Roman does anything to her.

We go to commercial.

Renee Young is with Roman Reigns in the interview area.  Renee asks Roman about confronting Triple H, but Bubba Ray wants Roman to finish what was started on Smackdown. Roman goes to Bubba and D-Von shows up.  Bubba wants to know what Roman is going to do and Roman punches Bubba and D-Von.  Triple H shows up to join in the attack.  Bubba and D-Von hold Roman for Hunter to punch him.  Roman is sent into a wall and The Dudleys leave.

Hunter picks up Roman and tells him he will never get this while he holds the title belt in Roman’s face.  Hunter slams Roman’s head into the title belt.

We go to commercial.

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon make their way to the ring . . . again.

Stephanie says you look at us with hatred and loathing in your eyes because you could never achieve what they have.  You base your lives on hopes and dreams.  The reality comes in when life slaps you in the face.

You are looking for new leadership and new champions because it isn’t happening.  This championship is going nowhere and neither are they.

Hunter talks about attacking from behind as if it is not strategy but is cowardice.  Hunter says a lot is at stake.  This is not a game, this is real life.  Millions of dollars are at stake.  You can take your morality and shove it.

Roman Reigns’ music plays and he makes his way to the ring again, but Roman has a bit of a limp as he makes his way to the ring.

Hunter comes out to meet Roman and they exchange punches.  Hunter has the advantage and he sends Roman into the ring post.  Roman sends Hunter into the ringside barrier.  Roman with a clothesline that sends Hunter over the ringside barrier into Yeatonville.

Stephanie signals to the back and a number of people come out and hold Roman for Hunter.  Hunter punches Roman.  More people come out this time to help Roman.  We have a brawl and Hunter and Roman are separated but only for a moment because Roman gets free and goes after Hunter.

Roman sends Miz over the announce table while Hunter gets in the ring.  Hunter is pulled out of the ring as Roman gets into the ring.

Hunter goes up the ramp but he tries to get back to the ring but he is held back.  Roman with a plancha onto Hunter and the other heels.

Hunter crawls up the ramp to be with Stephanie.

We go to credits.

Barring incident, Roman Reigns will close 2015 as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, which is a far sight better than the way he started it.

After winning the 2015 Royal Rumble Match to a less-than-enviable reception from a Philadelphia crowd who wanted to see Daniel Bryan go the distance, The Big Dog mounted what was, in essence, a yearlong redemption tour he hadn’t planned on. Rebuilding his game from the ground up, Reigns clawed his way back from a heartbreaking WrestleMania loss to finally put all the pieces together and capture not only the title, but something far more elusive: The favor of a WWE Universe that had turned hostile.

Seven days after Reigns’ year came full circle, called up the new champion to discuss the ups and downs of his 2015, from sharing the ring with Bryan to finally winning the “respect” of the crowd at the end of the craziest year in … well, ever.

WWE.COM: Going into 2015, you had just won Superstar of the Year and were coming off of an injury. What were your expectations for the year ahead?

The Royal Rumble was a very important part of the process.ROMAN REIGNS: I wasn’t even expecting that award. To be honest, I had no clue I was in the running. I wasn’t even paying attention because I was off rehabilitating the hernia and trying to get back. For me, my mental focus was getting healthy and getting back to where I could travel and make it to town after town and wrestle every single night. I was just trying to get back into the game.

WWE.COM: You and Daniel Bryan were both in the Royal Rumble Match. Were you worried about a potential crowd reaction in the same way that had happened the previous year?

REIGNS: No, I wasn’t concerned with D.B. being out there. If anything, I was happy he was out there, because he was coming off his injury, too. To have two guys coming back that can both contribute every single day, I never think that’s a bad thing. In hindsight, seeing how the reactions went, it didn’t help. But it is what it is, and everything happens for a reason. For me, it was an important part of the process.

WWE.COM: What process was that?

REIGNS: Getting better. Getting more experience, dealing with a hostile crowd. Learning. And that’s what spurred most of the progression, I think, is being in that situation and being able to learn from that.

WWE.COM: People always talk about the reaction when something goes right. Was it difficult for you to compete that night, knowing the reaction to your win wasn’t what you wanted it to be?

REIGNS: Yeah, absolutely. When we’re out there, it’s all based on passion and emotion. We go through these emotional roller coasters. You see us in pain, you see us in a frenzy, and that’s all part of the process. When [the crowd is] coming down heavy on you, it’s hard. And it took a lot out of me that night and for the weeks to come. Luckily, and with God favoring me, I was able to continue to push and learn and continue to grind and get to this point.

WWE.COM: The next night, Raw was actually reformatted into a studio show due to a snowstorm. How did it feel to get the chance to just talk without a crowd on your back?

REIGNS: That night was cool for me. I enjoy switching things up and going through different processes. A lot of times it can be monotonous doing what we do, week in and week out. It’s a new town, but it’s a similar building and the same routines can go down. So for us to switch that up and for me to have that one-on-one time and be able to talk to Paul Heyman with only a few players in that studio, it felt a lot more focused.

WWE.COM: At WWE Fastlane, you faced Daniel Bryan with your WrestleMania spot on the line. Were you worried that was going to be the end of the line for you?

REIGNS: I was confident. Was I feeling crazy at the time? Yeah. You never know what can happen. Especially in this industry, with how hard we go and the schedule we run. Injuries can happen at any time. But when the bell rings and I’m in the ring between those ropes, it’s up to me to get it done and I have full confidence in myself every single time.

WWE.COM: Knowing what you had gone through and what the WrestleMania crowd was like, how do you feel about your performance against Brock Lesnar in the main event?

I have a great support system and a family that loves me.REIGNS: I stand on that performance. That was a fight out there and the crowd knew it. Regardless of how they felt about me when I walked in, they certainly felt a definite way when I left, and I think that’s respect. I think that’s what’s helped me along this full year’s process. They can see I come out every single night and I’m not playing about this big-fight thing. I do it different than anybody else, because I’m willing to bang heads every single night. I don’t think anybody else could have gone out there with Brock Lesnar and do what I did. I stand by that and I’m proud of it. My father and my mother were in the front row watching and they got to see their son go toe-to-toe with Brock Lesnar. Not many people can say that.

WWE.COM: You mentioned the whole year was a process of improvement. Looking at what you had done and what you had yet to do after that WrestleMania match, what did you single out as something you needed to address to push you forward?

REIGNS: For me, everything. I don’t try to single out anything. When I first started, they said this is 24/7. It’s not a job, it’s a life. When all is said and done, I’ve only been in this business for five and a half years. I’m still just scratching at the surface. I haven’t even gotten to the big stuff yet. I feel like I’m growing in front of the crowd’s eyes, and that’s something to be a part of. If God keeps me healthy, I’ll continue to do that and run into this wall head-first until I break it down.

WWE.COM: Do you find it difficult to tune out any negative reactions to what you do?

REIGNS: It’s something I’ve had to teach myself over the past few years, because I am a person that cares. I do. I wouldn’t be in this business and do what we have to do and go through all the stuff we have to put up with if I didn’t care. Sometimes I have to pull myself back [and remind myself] the world is a big place. Don’t focus on the negativity. Focus on the positivity and the people that want you to do well, then, do it for them and for yourself. Sometimes I do things for myself; sometimes I do things for my family; sometimes I do things for my friends. There’s a great system where I’m not doing this just for one dream, I’m doing this for a bunch of people’s dreams. I have a great crew and a great family that loves me.

WWE.COM: Fast-forward to WWE TLC and your big moment where you destroyed Triple H after your match with Sheamus. Did that feel as epic to you as it did to watch?

REIGNS: I haven’t been able to watch much of the stuff back I’ve done in the past few weeks. But one thing I notice is anytime me and H are in the ring together, there’s always that buzz. You can feel it, there’s a tingle in the air. Regardless, when you have that buzz, it’s going to get to the physicality, so that’s how it’s got to go down.

WWE.COM: It sounds like the story of the year is that you’re more comfortable when you just fight people.

REIGNS: That’s just what I want to do: Create a path that’s unknown. It’s hard in this business and this world we live in to trail-blaze. To create something different and do your own thing is hard nowadays. That’s what I want to do. I want to take these matches to a whole new level and break that bar. That’s what I said ever since I got here: I just want to leave this place better than I found it, continue to raise that bar for my family and continue to push our legacy.

WWE.COM: What was it like to win the title in the same building as the Royal Rumble and hear the crowd finally coming around?

REIGNS: That, for me, was the icing on the cake. That was a full year of work and focusing in and keeping my head down, doing what I had to do and not letting anybody tell me differently. Not getting caught up in the B.S. of what everybody’s saying online or what somebody somewhere is blogging about. It’s just about me staying with my process, knowing I have a great support system. I surround myself with the right people, I believe in myself and I think it shows that if you put your mind to it, you can do anything you want — even if it’s dealing with thousands of crazy Philly fans. [Laughs.] Anything is possible.

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus vs. Roman Reigns in a TLC Match

With a precisely timed cash-in at Survivor Series, Sheamus snared the top prize in WWE and ruined Roman Reigns’ crowning moment in one fell swoop. But on Dec. 13, at WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs, the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion will have to answer to The Big Dog when he defends the title against Reigns in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match.

WWE COO Triple H announced the rematch on the Nov. 23 edition of Raw, one night after The Celtic Warrior Brogue Kicked his way into the history books. Per match rules, the winner on Dec. 13 will be the first Superstar to climb a ladder and retrieve the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which will hang high above the ring. Tables, ladders and chairs will all be fair game, perfectly legal instruments of destruction to be used by both competitors.

For Reigns, the match represents the latest in a seemingly endless series of obstacles to the WWE World Heavyweight Title. He nearly had the championship won at WrestleMania, only for Seth Rollins to interrupt and cash in his Money in the Bank contract successfully. At Money in the Bank 2015, the all-important contract — the same one ultimately won by Sheamus — seemed within reach, until Bray Wyatt interfered and halted him. Finally, at WWE’s fall classic, the title was his, claimed after Reigns went 4-0 in the championship tournament, only for The Celtic Warrior to emerge and unleash two brutal Brogue Kicks. Will Reigns score payback at WWE TLC?

Sheamus will not let the title go without a fight. The double-tough Irishman, now with the endorsement of The Authority, may be more powerful than ever before. After returning to the WWE mountaintop for the first time in years, The Celtic Warrior will likely go to the extreme to defend his newly won title. Without the element of surprise working in his favor, as it had at Survivor Series, will Sheamus be able to stop The Big Dog?

Perhaps most important of all, which Superstar stands to benefit most from the unique — and ultra-dangerous — Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match stipulation?

Watch the carnage unfold live when WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs takes over the award-winning WWE Network on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 8 ET/5 PT.

Roman Reigns and United States Champion Alberto Del Rio will face off in the semifinal round of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Tournament this Sunday at Survivor Series, with the winner advancing the tournament final — and the opportunity of a lifetime — later that night.

For Reigns, a victory against Del Rio would secure him a WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match for the second time in recent memory. The Big Dog originally earned No. 1 contender status on the Oct. 26 edition of Raw, when he came out on top in a Fatal 4-Way Match. Yet, his title match against champion Seth Rollins was canceled after The Architect suffered a major knee injury and had to forfeit the championship. Reigns was then offered a golden chance to be fast-tracked to the tournament final by WWE COO Triple H, but he refused to “play ball” with The Authority in exchange for the free ride.

In turn, Reigns’ path to the semifinals has been anything but easy. He scraped past The World’s Largest Athlete, Big Show, in round one, and overcame a tough challenge from Cesaro in round two.

Since returning to WWE by surprise at Hell in a Cell, where he reappeared alongside Zeb Colter and ended John Cena’s U.S. Championship reign, Del Rio has appeared virtually unstoppable. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion advanced to the tournament semifinals with wins over Stardust in round one and The Lucha Dragons’ Kalisto in round two.

Which Superstar will have the edge this Sunday in Atlanta at Survivor Series? Will the U.S. Champion’s dangerous strikes and flawless submission game propel him to a WWE World Heavyweight Title Match? Or will Reigns — who came within a hair of winning WWE’s top prize from Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 31 — Superman Punch and Spear his way to the final?

Watch this all-important tournament clash at Survivor Series, airing live this Sunday, only on the award-winning WWE Network.

The Predator is known for hunting other species for sport, so it’s not unimaginable to think the extraterrestrial could seek out a new challenge and target a WWE Superstar such as Roman Reigns. After all, the creature traveled to Los Angeles to hunt down dangerous gangs in “Predator 2,” so why not enter a WWE ring? The vicious hunter battled a couple of WWE Hall of Famers in Jesse Ventura and Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Predator,” so it wouldn’t be a first.

The Predator has the size and strength advantage over Reigns, along with a body resilient to damage, but don’t count out the powerhouse Superstar in this fight. Reigns’ Superman Punch could prove effective in making his opponent’s face even more grotesque. And who knows, maybe Arnold would join the fight to help the former Shield member out.
