Match Number Nine: WWE United States Title Match: Rusev (with Lana) versus Roman Reigns

We go tot he ring and Lana introduces her husband, WWE United States Champion Rusev. Roman Reigns is out next. Rusev attacks before the bell and they end up brawling out to the floor. Rusev destroys Reigns, using the steel and the barrier, and talks trash about how he treated Lana. Reigns fights back and hits a Superman punch. They continue unloading on each other as officials try to break it up. A steel chair comes into play and Reigns wails on Rusev with it before going back to right hands. Reigns mounts Rusev on the floor and unloads with rights as referees are still trying to separate them. Reigns comes back and mounts Rusev with headbutts.

Reigns comes back and beats on Rusev some more. Officials and trainers come to check on Rusev as Reigns is walked to the back by referees. Fans chant for Heath Slater. Rusev is tended to as Lana looks on concerned. JoJo announces that the ringside doctor has informed her that Rusev cannot compete. Rusev starts heading to the back but Reigns comes back out and spears him at ringside. We get replays and come back to Rusev down in pain. Reigns leaves again but stops to look back at the ring. Roman Reigns’ Vignette

We are back and it is time to look at the WWE World Title Match from Roman Reigns’ side.

We see footage of the Shield’s debut.  He says it was an awesome debut and it meant a lot to share it with Seth Rollins.  We see Roman and Seth winning the tag titles.  He was known as the muscle while Seth considered himself to be the architect.  Seth will claim he created anything.  They had their roles and they enjoyed being a team.  Their competitve nature made them friends, until he pulled the trigger.

Roman says he felt betrayed because they were that close.  We see Roman as he stood alone.  We go to Wrestlemania 31 and he says it meant a lot to even be in the main event of Wrestlemania.  It was emotional and pushed him further than anything he had done in his life.  Roman says Seth cashing in the contract and in that moment looking at Rollins taking in the moment as the WWE Champion with the fireworks, he had nothing.  His wife, daughter, and father were there but he felt anger.  Sometimes anger is the best motivator a man can have.

We go to Wrestlemania 32 when he got his moment to walk out of Wrestlemania as the WWE Champion.  He says he won fair and square.  He has defended it. Any time Seth Rollins has left him laying, Seth has attacked him from behind because Seth is afraid of Roman Reigns.  He is better than Seth.  He will not feel fulfilled as champion until he beats Seth.  Roman says he has waited for this for a long time.  It is a big fight feel.  They will be in Vegas and there will be no more running.  Seth will find out why he is THE GUY.  He expects a better Seth Rollins.  After Money in the Bank, he will be THE GUY.

We go to commercial.

Next week on RAW, we’ll see The Ambrose Asylum with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins as guests. The Shield will be in the ring together.

This week’s WWE interview segment on SportsCenter featured Roman Reigns for the second time.

Before the interview, ESPNews rolled a WWE hype package for the Big Three matches at Extreme Rules – A.J. Styles challenging Reigns for the WWE Title, Chris Jericho vs. Dean Ambrose in an Asylum cage match, and Charlotte vs. Natalya for the Women’s Title.

Coach asked Reigns what he thinks about facing Styles for the second time at Extreme Rules. Reigns said he has a lot of respect for Styles wrestling all over the world “competing against some of the greatest talent in the world for a bunch of different promotions.” But, Reigns said, now Styles is with “the company, WWE.” And, since they’re on SportsCenter, Reigns joked that it’s not going to work between them since Styles is about the Georgia Bulldogs and he played for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Reigns was asked how he’s handling being the top champion with everyone looking at him on a nightly basis. Reigns said he comes to work ready to go 52 weeks per year, he’s excited about the responsibility, and having his family on the road with him is a big help.

Asked how the influx of NXT talent to the main roster has affected things, Reigns said it’s created a completely different locker room environment. Reigns said when The Shield came in four years ago, it was a bunch of “old dogs” in the locker room. Now, he feels like it’s his locker room and his arena. Reigns welcomed everyone from NXT to come join what he’s leading on the main roster.

As for advice he would give to upcoming stars, Reigns said, “Believe in yourself.” He said there are so many different platforms now for people to “run their mouth,” which could be a distraction from not believing in what you’re doing.

Reigns talked about being in the main event of WrestleMania for the second straight year. He said it was a blessing to be in that position. Asked what it was like being in the ring with Brock Lesnar last year and Triple H this year, Reigns said it’s dealing with two different approaches. He credited Lesnar for being one of the only wrestlers on the roster more powerful than himself in the ring, while Hunter is more cerebral.
